How can I use multiple mediums to capture the essence of everyday people and elevate them into something beautiful? This question guided me through out the creation of my portfolio.
I experimented with my investigation through my use of multiple mediums (oil on canvas, scratchboard, and pastel on paper). I fully flushed out each medium by creating more than one piece with each.
My portrait of Mr. Chappell is a piece I often reference when painting other portraits because of my focus on the highlights in his skin. I became more comfortable exaggerating the colors that exist in the darkest and lightest parts of skin. I learned that you can simplify an image by breaking it up into smaller shapes, which helped me capture Mr. Chappell’s likeness and those of my other subjects.
